This research paper, done in my sophomore year, focuses on different modes of production. I looked at three various tribes in a specific region of South America to assess if one mode was more beneficial compared to the others.
Senior Capstone Project

For my senior research project I focused on fair trade coffee cooperatives in Guatemala and Mexico. The goal of this paper was to discuss how a beneficially mutual relationship was formed between the producers and the companies they sell to. The three factors of impact were the economics of the market, the role the environment plays and how relationships impact the daily lives of these families.
The foundation of my research came from a very informative interview with anthropologist Sarah Lyon (University of Kentucky) on her fieldwork with the La Voz community in Guatemala. She also spoke about her most current work with coffee farmers in Oaxaca, Mexico. Reading through her publication Coffee and Community . . . I was able to construct some very strong questions to guide my research.
